This is a story I have been tossing around in my head for a few years, but not until I started reading my own child countless bedtime stories did I have the drive to finally do something about it.

Nester the Gnoll, a newcomer to Knotty Knoll, yearns for silence in the bustling town, but with a band of rock ‘n’ roll gnomes next door, peace is hard to come by.

Knockin' Gnoll teaches kids about silent letters by making them impossible to ignore through repetition, rhyme, and sound-play. The silent letter words are woven directly into the plot so children repeatedly see letters that aren’t pronounced while hearing how the words actually sound.

I've learned a lot about children's books throughout this journey, but nothing surprised me more than just how painstaking the illustration process is. As a writer, it's easy to underestimate the amount of work that goes into every page until you mercilessly subject yourself to it.

And given my own artistic abilities, or rather, the conspicuous lack thereof, as you'll quickly discover in the pages of this book, I can only imagine the process is even more involved than I already give it credit for.

I’ve certainly earned a new appreciation for children’s authors and illustrators.
